Dr. Michael R. Grimaila is a Professor of Systems Engineering and Head of the Department of Systems Engineering & Management, Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT).
Grimaila received a Ph.D. in computer engineering from Texas A&M University (TAMU) in 1999. He has taught courses and conducted research in the areas of computer and network security, information and communications technology, information assurance and security, and systems engineering. His current research interests include quantum cryptography, quantum information science, and quantum networking.
Dr. Grimaila serves on the editorial board of Information System Security Association (ISSA) Journal, as an Area Editor for The Defense Cyber Review (CDR) at West Point, and as a Corresponding Editor for the Journal of Defense Modeling and Simulation (JDMS). He is a Fellow of the Information System Security Association (ISSA), a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and is a member of the Association for Computer Machinery (ACM).
Grimaila has a national and international reputation. He chaired the International Conference on Information Warfare in 2010; delivered keynote addresses at the IEEE Intelligence and Security Informatics (ISI) Conference in 2009 and at the Cyber Security and Information Intelligence Research Workshop in 2010; and has given multiple invited talks at the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCoE) in Tallinn, Estonia in 2010 and 2016. He has briefed his research at Air Force operational commands, briefed more than 10 general officers on topics related to cyber warfare, served on the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) Metrics Working Group, the International Systems Security Engineering Association (ISSEA) Metrics Working Group, the DOD Defense-Wide Information Assurance Program (DIAP) Information Assurance Best Practices Group, the DOD Information Assurance Metrics Working Group, and was a contributor to ISO/IEC CD 27004 Security Metrics Standard.
